Monarda fistulosa, commonly called Wild bergamot, comes from the dry rocky soils of the prairies in Missouri. A clump forming herbaceous perennial, wild looking lavender flowers grow atop solitary, terminal heads. The flowers rest upon showy, pinkish leaf brackets. Bees and butterflies love wild bergamot as much as people do. This plant is famously used in teas and perfumes.
