Fagioli/Valova/Il Pomo d'Oro
Description:
A collection of vital and expressive arias by Neapolitan composersOne of the finest countertenors of our time, Argentine Franco Fagioli's latest album is a collection of operatic arias by Leonardo Vinci, a composer of the Neapolitan school to which Scarlatti, Pergolesi and Porpora also belong. Fagioli's first visit to Japan in 2018, he won the hearts of the audience with his tremendous voice. For an encore, he also performed an aria from Vinci's opera "Antarce" in response to an ardent fan's request. Vinci's music is full of life and dramatic expression, and in an era when castrato reigned supreme, a new generation of singers shone in da capo arias and canto fioritos. The arias, especially those based on Metastasio's script, used metaphor to express the protagonist's state of mind. Accompaniment is provided by Il Pomo d'Oro, a renowned baroque orchestra. Seven of the pieces in the recording are world premiere recordings. Universal Music/IMS
