Julian Anderson studied in England with Constant Lambert and Alexander Gale, and then moved to France to study with Tristan Murail, Messiaen, Ligeti, and other composers with different styles. Perhaps reflecting this background, we can hear a variety of styles in this album. In Ring Dance, we hear spectral music, in Lady with a Beard we hear echoes of Messiaen, and in Pomegranate Colors, we hear exotic Asian music.
